Lee Roy Selmon’s Review

If you have read my blog before, you will note that I have done barbecue restaurant reviews.  While I am cognizant of the fact that I cannot categorize Lee Roy Selmon’s as strictly a barbecue restaurant, they smoke some pretty good meat.

I hope readers do not confuse my words of praise with idol worship. While it may be true that Lee Roy Selmon was the first Buccaneer in franchise history and its only member of the Hall of Fame, these fact are in no way shaping my positive review of Selmon’s Restaurant.

If you are in the mood for an appetizer, you can not go wrong with the Chicken Back Country Nachos (“no okra, please”).  This is a huge with DeeDee and little Jack.  Frankly, I am surprised there has not been a fight at the table (although I might have forgotten a few dirty looks).

I have had a lot of the entrees on the menu.  My suggestion to all is to get the Selmon Family Platter and split it with your significant other.  If you do order the Family Platter on your own, do yourself a favor and push yourself away from the table after half and hour and take the remainder home with you.  The Family Platter consists of smoked chicken, pulled pork, smoked pork ribs, and mama’s meatloaf.  My personal preference is to get extra pulled pork and forego the meatloaf.  Just an opinion, the meatloaf is delicious but I think the pulled pork is special.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you are a bbq guy like me, do yourself a tremendous favor and ask for the Geogia Mustard Sauce along with the Carolina BBQ sauce.  If you have never tried or even if you like a mustard-based bbq sauce, you need to try Selmon’s. It may be the best mustard sauce I have ever had.  By the way, a close second would be Big Bob Gibson’s Mustard Sauce that you can buy online (or visit his store in Alabama).

Without question, Selmon’s is one of my favorite barbecue restaurants to eat and they don’t even consider themselves a BBQ joint.

Oh yeah! This is one of Jen and my favorite places to eat. We go in and share the chicken back nachos and a plate of the smashed chicken. It is one of the best.

Good isn't it. I am wondering if the "smashed chicken" is the Twisted Southern Chicken on the menu...
